The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has intensified preparations for the June 20, 2026 Ekiti State Governorship Election, formally presenting the Register of Voters to political parties.
The presentation was led by INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, alongside National Commissioners, during a readiness assessment visit to the state. The register shows 1,059,360 registered voters, up from approximately 900,000 following the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi said the visit reflects INEC’s commitment to a peaceful, credible, and transparent election, noting collaborations with security agencies, political parties, civil society organizations, and media partners.
Omoseyindemi listed measures already taken, including the assessment and validation of Registration Area Centres (RACs), Super RACs, and polling units, intensified security engagement, training of electoral officers, and voter education campaigns across the state.
INEC Chairman Amupitan described the voters register as “the foundation upon which free, fair and credible elections are built”, stressing its accuracy and integrity. He also warned against vote buying and vote trading, labeling them criminal offenses under the Electoral Act.
Key technological innovations, such as the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), will be deployed to enhance transparency and credibility, building on successes in previous elections.
The INEC team formally presented copies of the register to all political parties, and Amupitan urged officials and stakeholders to continue preparations and ensure timely logistics deployment, security, and staff welfare.
