The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, received the Chief of Civil-Military Relations of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal E.K. Gabkwet, alongside senior officers during a courtesy visit focused on strengthening collaboration between environmental sustainability and national security.
During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the growing link between climate change, environmental degradation, and insecurity in Nigeria. He noted that challenges such as desertification, flooding, shrinking arable land, and water scarcity are intensifying conflicts over natural resources and contributing to instability in affected communities.
Discussions centered on areas of collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Nigerian Air Force, including support for Nigeria’s National Clean Cooking Policy, implementation of the National Circular Economy Roadmap, and the Presidential Forest Guards Initiative aimed at protecting forests, combating illegal logging, and restoring degraded ecosystems.
Both parties also agreed to promote joint tree-planting campaigns across Nigerian Air Force barracks and installations as part of efforts to advance the “Green Nigeria” agenda and encourage environmental restoration nationwide.
Air Vice Marshal Gabkwet reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting environmental initiatives that strengthen national resilience, community development, and civil-military cooperation.
The meeting highlighted the Federal Government’s integrated approach to combining environmental protection, climate action, and security interventions to ensure sustainable development and long-term peace across the country
