The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese firms to rehabilitate and revive the Warri Refinery and Port Harcourt Refinery.

The agreement is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to restore local refining capacity, reduce dependence on fuel imports, and strengthen Nigeria’s energy security.

According to officials, the partnership will focus on technical upgrades, infrastructure rehabilitation, and operational efficiency to ensure the refineries return to optimal production levels.

The move comes amid broader reforms in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector aimed at boosting domestic refining and stabilising fuel supply across the country.

NNPC noted that collaboration with international partners is key to achieving sustainable operations and long-term viability of the nation’s refineries.

The development is expected to have significant economic impact, including job creation and improved availability of refined petroleum products.
