Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused MTN Nigeria of exploiting subscribers, warning that protests may erupt nationwide following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the telecom firm.
Sowore alleged that MTN continues to unfairly deplete customers’ data, claiming that purchased data bundles are exhausted far quicker than expected. He described the situation as exploitative and accused the company of attempting to downplay the issue through minor refunds to affected users.
He further claimed that the problem extends beyond MTN, alleging that other telecom operators such as Airtel Nigeria and Globacom, alongside regulatory agencies, are complicit.
According to him, arrangements are being made for coordinated protests and possible occupation of telecom offices across the country if no action is taken.
The allegations have sparked conversations among subscribers, many of whom have raised concerns over data usage transparency and billing practices.
As of now, telecom operators and regulatory authorities are yet to issue official responses to the claims.
