Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his recent comments on insecurity, saying the president appears disconnected from the harsh realities many Nigerians face daily.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV News on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Baba-Ahmed reacted to remarks made by President Tinubu during a meeting with a Plateau State delegation led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
Reports had indicated that Tinubu accused opposition politicians of using the issue of insecurity to weaken his government politically.
The president reportedly said some political opponents were trying to exploit the security crisis for personal gain and described himself as a “stubborn politician” who would not bow to such pressure.
Reacting to the statement, Baba-Ahmed disagreed strongly and argued that the president does not seem to fully understand the level of suffering Nigerians are experiencing across the country.
He emphasized that insecurity has spread across many regions, while poverty, hunger, and hopelessness continue to increase among citizens. According to him, the government must show stronger commitment by taking direct action and ensuring that security agencies receive proper support and funding.
He stated, “Frankly, I don’t think Tinubu is fully aware of the realities Nigerians face daily, and that is unfortunate.”
He also questioned the claim that insecurity is being politicized, asking who should truly be blamed for the crisis, the criminals carrying out attacks or the ordinary Nigerians suffering from violence and fear.
Baba-Ahmed maintained that leadership should focus more on solving the country’s pressing problems rather than treating insecurity as a political argument.
He stressed that Nigerians want practical solutions, stronger protection, and a government that fully understands the seriousness of their daily struggles.
