Traditional rulers across Ogun’s border communities are taking on a more central role in safeguarding the nation, following renewed collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
During a recent engagement, the Area Controller, Oladapo Afeni, met with the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, highlighting the strategic importance of border communities in preventing the inflow of illicit goods and other threats.
He noted that while Customs has intensified surveillance and enforcement, the role of traditional institutions remains vital in mobilising residents—especially youths—against smuggling and unlawful cross-border activities.
In response, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle reaffirmed the commitment of his people to peace and security, noting that traditional leaders will continue to sensitise their communities and support government efforts.
