The Nandu-speaking community in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State has called on political stakeholders to ensure fair representation and inclusion in the state’s governance structure.
In a formal appeal addressed to Kaduna State, zonal, and Sanga LGA stakeholders, the community expressed concern over what it described as a long-standing lack of political representation since 1999.
According to the statement, no member of the Nandu community has held elective positions such as Local Government Chairman or a seat in the State House of Assembly.
The community noted that despite its consistent participation in elections and reputation as a peaceful and law-abiding group, it has not received commensurate recognition in political appointments or leadership roles.
This, they said, has raised concerns about their place within the broader political framework of the state.
With a population of over 6,000 people, the Nandu community stated that its absence from key political offices highlights a gap in inclusive governance.
It pointed out that the only notable appointment linked to a Nandu indigene, Mrs. Norris Yohana Mapu, does not directly reflect their representation within Kaduna State, as her official and electoral ties are associated with Plateau State.
The statement, signed by Hon. Alexander Yahaya, JP, on behalf of the community, urged stakeholders to review the situation and take deliberate steps to promote fairness and equitable representation.
Reaffirming their commitment to peace and democratic values, the Nandu people emphasized that their appeal is rooted in a desire for recognition, inclusion, and a stronger sense of belonging within the state’s political landscape.
