Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA to intensify efforts in securing the release of students abducted from school in Kebbi.

Media Information Officer, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Capt. David Adewusi, in a statement on yesterday, said the COAS gave the directive during a tour to the state on Monday.

Addressing frontline commanders and troops, Shaibu charged them to conduct intelligence-driven operations and maintain relentless day-and-night pursuit of the abductors.

“We must find these children. Act decisively and professionally on all intelligence. Success is not optional.”

The COAS also engaged local vigilance groups and hunters, describing them as critical partners in the operation.

He urged them to leverage their knowledge of the terrain in collaboration with troops to locate and neutralise criminal elements. “Together, we will restore peace and ensure children can attend school safely,” he added.

During a condolence visit to the traditional ruler of Danko, Alhaji Abubakar Allaje, and the Principal of GGCSS Maga, Hajiya Rabi Magaji, the COAS assured them of the military’s unwavering commitment to rescuing the abducted students unharmed. He enjoined troops to remain resilient and professional, urging them to act within the rules of engagement while remaining responsive, disciplined, and resolute in restoring peace to Kebbi State and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has assured parents of the abducted schoolgirls of government’s unwavering determination to rescue their children.

Idris gave the assurance while addressing newsmen in Maga shortly after a meeting with security agencies, traditional leaders, parents of the abducted children, and other stakeholders on the situation.

Idris condemned the criminal act, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate.

He reassured parents that security operatives were working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of the 25 abducted schoolgirls.

He explained that his visit to Maga was to personally assess the situation, console the parents, and restore their confidence.

“The unfortunate incident has already occurred, and we came to see things for ourselves. We met with the parents, whose children were abducted to give them confidence and to assure them that we will do everything possible to ensure the safe rescue of their children.

“We have also urged them to remain confident, as the security agencies are doing the needful. That is the essence of coming to Maga, to support our people, give them encouragement, and strengthen their hope,” the said.
