Katsina State Hisbah Board has resolved over 2,500 marriage-related cases since its establishment by Governor Dikko Radda. The Commander General of Hisbah in the state, Dr Aminu Usman (Abu Ammar), disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina yesterday.
Usman stated that the board was established to address moral decadence and social vices plaguing the society across the state.
“The issue of divorce has been a major concern in the state. However, with Hisbah’s intervention, over 2,500 marriages have been preserved,” he said. He explained that without the board’s mediation, many women would have been divorced by their husbands, leading to potentially adverse societal outcomes.
“This is a significant achievement because we have successfully tackled the rampant cases of divorce in Katsina State,” Usman added. He also noted that the board had reunited over 500 girls with their families. These girls, who had abandoned their homes for months or even years, had been living on the streets or in inappropriate environments.
“Some of these girls had made various illicit joints their homes and were found with children born out of wedlock,” he said. Usman further explained: “For those with children, we traced the men responsible for the pregnancies and compelled them to marry the women.
“I can confidently say that such cases have drastically reduced across the state. This success is due to the unwavering support provided by the governor.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Hisbah is an institution established to uphold the Shari’ah legal system by safeguarding society from moral decay, promoting good values, and ensuring the welfare of the populace.
The board’s responsibilities include discouraging transgressions, encouraging virtuous behaviour, and preventing evil practices, among other duties.
