The Project Monitoring Team of Adamawa State kicked off a crucial project monitoring initiative on Wednesday, aimed at overseeing various government projects across the state. This effort aligns with the urban renewal agenda of the Fintiri-led administration, ensuring that development initiatives are effectively implemented and progress is tracked.
Some of the project sites visited include the Model Schools Construction at Girei and Yola North L.G.A., which comprise Nursery, Primary, and Junior Secondary Schools; the 18.3-kilometer (18.3 km) road network at the Federal Housing Estate; the newly constructed Mubi Road Flyover; the construction of the Jimeta Ultra-Modern Shopping Mall Complex; the construction of the Yola Stadium Complex along Numan Road; the 20.8-kilometer (20.8 km) Super Highway from Welcome to Yola to A.A. Lawan Junction; the seven-span flyover construction at A.A. Lawan Junction; and the construction of a half cloverleaf intersection along Numan Road, among others.
Briefing the press after the site visits, Honorable Augustine James, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring, highlighted the transformative initiatives of Governor Ahmad Umaru Fintiri. He emphasized that the governor has successfully redefined the state’s landscape, bringing it into the modern age. Honorable Augustine remarked that His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is a pacesetter and the architect of a modern Adamawa State. He said the state can now stand alongside the most developed states in Nigeria, meeting the expectations of 21st-century infrastructural development. He urged residents to rally behind the current administration to sustain this momentum of progress.
The Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Planning Commission, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Hassan M. Modibbo, praised the quality of work observed during recent site visits, describing it as excellent. He noted that these projects will significantly benefit the citizens of Adamawa State. Alhaji Modibbo emphasized the importance of ensuring that the incoming governor continues this momentum, highlighting that a strong commitment to progress is essential as the baton is passed on.
Engineer Munjad Alsammoh of Triacta Nigeria Limited expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the construction team on such a significant project. He commended Governor Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri for his impressive work and urged him to maintain the momentum. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Energy in Adamawa State, Engineer Muhammad Suleiman, provided insights into the ongoing flyover construction at Mubi Road and the road expansion along the Jimeta Ultra-Modern Shopping Mall Complex, which features six lanes and parking space to accommodate increasing traffic demands. In addition to enhancing road capacity, the construction includes drainage systems leading to the old market, which will help manage water flow and prevent flooding. The half cloverleaf intersection is expected to significantly improve traffic movement from Numan to Yola, easing congestion and making travel more efficient for commuters.
Suleiman also provided an update on the ambitious superhighway construction project and the mini flyover featuring two-span bridges and a retaining wall. According to him, the infrastructure will connect to seven-span flyovers at A.A. Lawan Junction. He revealed that 75% of the work has already been completed, highlighting the significant progress made. Suleiman confidently stated that by December 2024, we can expect to see remarkable advancements in all the ongoing projects, promising a transformative impact on the region’s transportation network.
The company representative of Associate Design Consultant, Sam Alara, highlighted some pressing challenges facing the nation, including inflation and supply chain disruptions due to flooding, among other problems affecting the construction of model schools across the state. He reassured the public that some of the ongoing projects will be handed over to beneficiaries within four weeks. Sam Alara also highlighted the potential of the Jimeta Ultra-Modern Shopping Mall, stating that once completed, the state-of-the-art facility will not only feature a three-story mall but also include warehouses, shops, clinics, a police station, a fire service station, banks, and places of worship. He said the project aims to create employment opportunities and foster economic growth in the region. Alara urged citizens to cooperate and maintain peace, emphasizing that a peaceful environment is crucial for contractors to carry out their work effectively.
