No officer should fight for a nation by day and sleep in indignity by night, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has declared.
The Inspector-General spoke on Wednesday during the commissioning of newly constructed police barracks in Kano, where he declared that the strength of the police should not just be measured by the calibre of its arms but by the conditions in which its officers live, work, and serve.
The Inspector-General therefore assured that he was determined to permanently eliminate the housing gap within the Nigeria Police Force.
While stating that the housing project was part of a nationwide blueprint of strategic transformation, he added that his administration was not just building barracks and offices, but was constructing a new era of policing that is modern, motivated, and mission-ready.
“We are reconstructing the Force from within, aligning operational excellence with emotional dignity, linking welfare to performance, and treating infrastructure not as cosmetic but as catalytic,” said the IGP.
He lauded their private sector partners who had aligned with their vision and were able to deliver this project on time, within scope, and to the highest standards.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his consistent support to the police, saying the support had been ennobling and encouraging.
“To the officers and families who will reside here, this is not a token, and it is not charity. It is recognition of your sacrifice,” he stated.
“It is a symbol of institutional respect, treated with the same honour and discipline with which you wear the uniform,” he stressed.
In his speech, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, listed the projects to include residential quarters and an office complex at the Bompai and Zaria Road Police Barracks in the state.
“The facilities at Bompai and Zaria Road Police Barracks consist of 204 blocks of residential apartments, a block of offices, a state armoury, a state workshop, tarred road networks with drainage, and an exhibits store.
“These structures will boost morale, productivity, and overall effectiveness of our personnel that span over 11 Area Commands, 78 Police Divisions, and 2 Police Mobile Force Squadrons (9 & 52),” he added.
