The university in the southern United States remained locked down for almost eight hours after the incident. Officials have not yet confirmed the victims’ identities or whether anyone is in custody.

Two people were killed in a shooting at a student dormitory at South Carolina State University in the US on Thursday night, officials said.
A third person was wounded.
“University officials have not yet confirmed the victims’ identities or the condition of the wounded person,” the university said in a social media post Friday. “The campus remains on lockdown.”
What else do we know about the shooting?
The shooting was reported at about 9:15 p.m. local time (0215 GMT Friday) at the university’s Hugine Suites student residential complex, prompting a lockdown that lasted until 5 a.m. and was lifted on Friday.
Officials have not said whether anyone was in custody in connection with the shooting. They said local law enforcement agencies were assisting the university “in patrolling on and around the campus.”
According to US broadcaster ABC, one person was killed and another wounded in two shootings at the same university in October.
Around 3,000 students are enrolled at South Carolina State, one of two historically Black colleges in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
The university said Friday’s classes had been canceled and students were being offered counselling.
